What kind of flowers float well with tea light candles?

I want to float candles and flowers for my centerpieces. Does anyone know what kinds of flowers work well? These are the ones I%26#039;m thinking of...








Asiatic Lilies


Asters


Chrysanthemums


Dahlias

they are made for water so you don%26#039;t run the risk of them being ruined if the table gets jostled, etc.

Reply:Any flower that has a wide base and is flat at the base. For example roses won%26#039;t do, Daises and Magnolias,Maple Leaves sprayed with glitter etc will.





Even fake water lilies work well to.

Reply:With the suggestions you give, I%26#039;m thinking you are planning a fall wedding....how about sunflowers, or orchids? Maybe even gerbera daisies.





If you are thinking chrysanthemums why not look in to the %26#039;football%26#039; mums that are bigger and can be sprayed with clear adhesive and clear/silver/gold glitter that will pick up the glow from the tea lights and sparkle a little.





For something unusual, have a grouping of flowers %26#039;handtied%26#039; and cut flat across the bottom. Put them in a flat container (maybe a square dish?) with shallow water, not enough that they will %26#039;float%26#039; but enough that you can still float the tea lights. The play of light and shadow on the flowers as the lights move will be awesome...maybe add some clear glitter to the stems too. Make sure that they are cut long enough to avoid the flame and that the florist uses a non-flammable wrap to avoid an ugly situation.
Reply:Those flowers would be beautiful, especially if you are going for alot of color! A couple of other flowers I have seen floating with candles are water lilies and magnolias.


Why not go to a local florist and buy a sample of each of the flowers you like, and see what they look like? It wouldn%26#039;t have to be fancy, just to see if they float how you want them too. Just think of it as sort of a test run!
